It has been reported that the relationship between Kawhi Leonard, Gregg Popovich, and the San Antonio Spurs has been rocky at best, and we have now reached the point where Popovich won't even answer a question about him.

“This is the last 23 games of the season. It doesn't do any good to be wishing and hoping that somebody is going to be added that saves the day. That's all silly stuff,” Popovich said. “These guys have gotta go play for themselves and do what they do.”

When asked by a reporter at the Spurs morning shootaround if Kawhi came by and said he wanted to play what his response would be, his answer was pretty simple.

“I'm not going to discuss that stuff with you.”

Leonard has been cleared by doctors to return to game action, but he has decided to continue to sit out, and he might even seek a second opinion. He has been dealing with a right quad tendinopathy injury that just hasn't seemed to get a lot better.

He still is dealing with some pain from the injury, and that seems to be what is causing him to sit out for a period of time.

According to ESPN sources, this has really complicated the relationship he has with the team.

“The injury, rehabilitation and timetable for a return has complicated the Spurs' and Leonard's relationship, causing tension and fraying the fabric of what was once a strong partnership, league sources told ESPN.”

With it looking unlikely that he will return this season, and with Leonard being eligible for free agency in the summer of 2019, it will be interesting to watch if he does decide to leave the Spurs and join a different team.
