Kawhi Leonard's deteriorating relationship with the San Antonio Spurs is one story most didn't see coming before this season.

Until then, it looked like a match made in heaven with the lowkey superstar blossoming into his potential under Gregg Popovich in a city and for an organization that would appreciate his talents.

There's apparently more to it than just the clear basketball fit.

According to Business Insider, Leonard's family may also be playing a factor in the increasing rift:

A league source told Business Insider that Leonard's agency and family have never been fond of Texas and feel that San Antonio, a small market, has hurt Leonard's marketability when it comes to sponsors. The same source said Leonard's shy personality is more to blame for his inability to get more sponsorships than San Antonio's market size.

That's an interesting twist to this saga and if true, could hint at potential destinations for Leonard if the size of the market is an important factor.

Of course, the Los Angeles Lakers are working to clear the cap space to attract big name free agents and they will certainly be in play if Leonard becomes available.

It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out and what Leonard ends up choosing to do.
