The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered a disappointing 45-42 loss in the AFC Divisional Round to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon. That was despite a huge performance from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who completed 37-of-58 passes for 469 yards with five touchdown passes to just one interception.

In doing so, Roethlisberger became the first player in league history to toss five touchdowns in a playoff loss.

The 35-year-old nearly engineered a comeback from a 21-point first-half deficit with the bulk of his production coming in the final two quarters of play. Although his last touchdown came in the final seconds with the game already decided, it nevertheless put a cap on an impressive outing from Roethlisberger against the top-ranked passing defense this season.

Big Ben's comeback attempt wasn't enough the Jaguars simply came out the more motivated team on Sunday. Their running game led the charge with rookie running back Leonard Fournette going for 109 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Blake Bortles looked under control making timely plays completing 14-of-26 passes for 216 passing yards and a touchdown. His only touchdown pass came on an eight-play, 75-yard drive in response to a 43-yard touchdown reception from Antonio Brown.

The Steelers will head into the offseason with plenty of questions around the roster, but one of those will not be Roethlisberger's future with the team as he has already stated he will return for the 2018 campaign. He still has two more years left on his contract that runs through the 2019 season.

Roethlisberger is still playing at a high level after finishing this season with 4,251 passing yards and 28 touchdown passes (both fifth in the league) and a 64.2 completion rate (10th). It marked his fifth season with more than 4,000 passing yards and seventh with more than 25 passing touchdowns.
