Jesse James, Ramon Foster, and T.J. Watt returned to practice with the team this week after a win against the Titans in week 3 of the preseason. James sustained a back injury while bringing down a catch in the first half their Saturday matchup. Foster performed individual drills to test the hyperextended knee that has kept him off the field since the first week of training camp. Watt was a full participant in practice and seems to have overcome an ongoing hamstring injury that has gone on throughout the summer.

According to Bryan Deardo of 247Sports, Ben Roethlisberger blames himself for James' injury.

“I was most disappointed about throwing to him,” Roethlisberger said after the game. “We’ve had some good connections in the past. It's on me. He was in the right spots. I was just sailing them a little bit. It’s one of those things where you see a big target and you kinda relax because and don’t think about the pinpoint accuracy. I need to do that. I hate that he got hurt because of the pass I threw tonight.”

Roethlisberger made his preseason debut on Saturday and recognized James' talent. James has the potential to be a red zone threat against any team in the NFL this year. He set the record for red zone touchdowns by a tight end at Penn State. The Steelers hope his skillset will translate well against top-tier defenses this year.

It'll be important for the Steelers to get their injured personnel in regular season shape while they work on getting their ongoing contract dispute with Le'Veon Bell settled. Roethlisberger will need full support from the rest of their roster, especially from James Conner and Jaylen Samuels in the backfield. With the regular season approaching fast, the Steelers are looking to hit the ground running.
