The Pittsburgh Steelers selecting Kenny Pickett to be its quarterback of the future was one of the feel-good stories of the NFL draft. But the franchise isn't planning to crown him the king just yet.

Pickett is reportedly still simmering with the third-stringers for the second week in a row at the OTAs. That has the two veteran QBs on the roster, Mitchell Trubisky and Mason Rudolph, ahead of him on the Steelers depth chart, at least for the time being.

The Steelers rookie spoke out about his current place on the totem pole at Pittsburgh. The early development has reportedly neither bothered nor surprised him in the least.

Via ESPN's Brooke Pryor:

Kenny Pickett is still working with the third string in the second week of OTAs, but he's not surprised by the early pecking order: “I didn’t think I was going to walk in and be the 1. It’s kind of what I was expecting, just come in here and earn everything I get.”

There's little doubt that the Steelers drafted Kenny Pickett to be their starting quarterback. It's likely just a question of how long it takes before they throw him into the fire. For now, the rookie doesn't mind waiting.
