Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger made headlines when he criticized the team's decision to select another quarterback in the 2018 NFL Draft. He has since reached out to Mason Rudolph, but it appears he is not the only quarterback on the team who felt indifferent toward the situation.

The biggest story of the 2017 NFL season was Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Nick Foles leading his team to a Super Bowl victory. According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, quarterback Landry Jones feels he could do the same if given the opportunity:

“That would be the goal,’’ said Jones. “Shoot, man, go on a run like that, be Super Bowl MVP!”

Jones' comments should come as no surprise. Foles' outing down the stretch of the 2017 campaign was as impressive as it was inspiring. That said, he has become the perfect example of how to be prepared for when the time comes for backup signal-callers. Not only did it serve as the gratification Foles needed after a tumultuous career, but it has also led to some lucrative opportunities in the near future.

Jones is entering his sixth season as Roethlisberger's backup. Up to this point, he has established himself as one of the more competent second-stringers in the league. He has thrown for 1,310 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing 63.9 percent of his passes in 18 appearances.

However, his status as the backup is now in jeopardy after Pittsburgh selected former Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph in the third round of this year's draft. Although Roethlisberger may be worried about how the selection affects him in the long run, Jones could feel the effect of losing his 2nd-string job immediately if he is not careful.
