Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will miss his team's upcoming Week 10 home matchup against the Detroit Lions after being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, as noted by the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Roethlisberger was initially an early question mark for the Steelers' home clash with the Lions due to both a pectoral and shoulder injury. He missed the team's scheduled practice sessions on both Wednesday and Thursday due to the lingering injuries. But after featuring in practice on Friday, he was given the green light to play against Detroit.

Now, it seems that Roethlisberger will now have some time to rest these injuries, as he will not play against Detroit in Week 10.

Backup quarterback Mason Rudolph is expected to start in Roethlisberger's place this week. He has not logged a single snap on offense this season, but he did appear in five games last season, where he totaled for two passing touchdowns to go along with an 87.7 passer rating.

Roethlisberger noted on “The Dan Patrick Show” earlier this month that he is vaccinated. A vaccinated player who tests positive would need to be asymptomatic and register two negative tests 24 hours apart before he can rejoin the team. If this is the case for the veteran quarterback, then he could be eligible to feature in the Steelers' practice session on Wednesday ahead of their Week 11 Sunday Night Football encounter with the Los Angeles Chargers.

For now, the Steelers will look to move to 6-3 with a win over Detroit. The Steelers are currently looking to keep pace with the first place Baltimore Ravens in the AFC North standings.
