Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco was rather confident about how his team stacked up against the Pittsburgh Steelers in their first showdown. It appears his postgame comments did not sit well with several players on the Steelers.
Flacco insinuated this Pittsburgh squad was hardly the team he had become accustomed to facing over the years. According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, guard Ramon Foster admitted that his comments have added some fuel to the fire for this week's matchup:
“It was kind of shocking,” Steelers guard Ramon Foster said.
“He didn’t feel like he was hit hard enough. We’ll see how it goes. You don’t really see a quarterback saying anything like that.”
Safety Sean Davis added that he hopes Flacco feels different this time around.
“I don’t like that comment,” safety Sean Davis said, “because I feel like Baltimore week, I’m already preparing my body as if there’s going to be a bruising.
“We’ll see if he has the same response after this game.”
Joe Flacco made postgame comments that may have been a bit ill-advised, however, they were still true nonetheless. The Ravens offense made easy work of the Steelers' defense in Week 4. Flacco had one of his strongest performances of the year after completing 28-of-42 passes for 363 yards and two touchdowns en route to a 26-14 win. Flacco added insult to injury when he added that the offense should have put more points up against Pittsburgh given their lackluster play.
The comments have only fanned the flames of the heated rivalry that already exists between these two teams. Of course, Pittsburgh has the upper hand this time around since they sit atop the AFC North with a 4-2-1 record. Meanwhile, Baltimore's offense has fluctuated throughout the season since their last meeting. It is safe to say that Flacco is in store for a physical game this Sunday.
