The Phoenix Suns hold the number one pick in the upcoming draft and Arizona's Deandre Ayton is believed to be the player they will select with their pick. Ayton was brought in to Phoenix on Wednesday morning and had a private workout with the Suns. and general manager Ryan McDonough was really impressed with what he saw.

“It’s a big day for the franchise in terms of having the number one pick and working out Deandre Ayton for the number one pick. Just had a phenomenal workout [with DeAndre]… It’s everything we expected.”

If Ayton wasn't already their number one choice on the board, it sure sounds like he's solidified his place following the workout.

Ayton has made it clear a few times that he would like to be on the Suns. On an appearance on CBS Sports radio, he said he could see a Shaq and Kobe 2.0 with him and Devin Booker.

McDonough has taken notice of Ayton saying he wants to be in Phoenix and said the team takes it as a great compliment. Ayton is from the Bahamas, but played his college basketball with the Arizona Wildcats. Being drafted by Phoenix would allow him to stay close to his college ties.

Ayton is a gifted big man who can score with ease. His biggest question mark is on the defensive end of the floor, and it has been like that since he even came to college. In his first and only season at Arizona, Ayton averaged 20.1 points, 11.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game on 61.2 percent shooting from the field and 34.3 percent from beyond the arc (even though he only attempted ond three per game).
