The Phoenix Suns organization issued a statement in response to a massive fan melee after Game 1 of the team's NBA playoff series against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The statement suggested the Suns organization “will not tolerate” the kind of violence that broke out after Phoenix took the opener of the Western Conference finals against the Clippers. It also asked supporters to work together so as to provide a “model fan experience.”

For those who might not be privy to the brawl this statement refers to, take a look below.

This fight was far more expansive than the “Suns in 4” situation, when one Suns fan got into it with two Denver Nuggets fans at the Pepsi Center in Denver. Multiple persons appear to have been involved, though it seems–at least from the above video–the physical part of the altercation was incited by unruly Clippers fans.

It's a bit unfortunate these playoffs, which have truly been spectacular, have been a bit marred by inappropriate fan behavior. At least the “Suns in 4” fight was more isolated and fizzled out pretty quickly, but this latest fracas is a continuation of a concerning trend.

The aftermath also takes away from what was a fun Game 1 between the Suns and Clippers.

Phoenix took the opener despite missing Chris Paul, with Devin Booker putting up a 40-point triple-double. The Clippers wouldn't buckle easily, though, and it was a one-possession game until the Suns put things away at the free-throw line.

Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail among both Suns and Clippers fans as they enjoy the rest of what should be an excellent series.
