In what was already a deep and rather eclectic cast, The Suicide Squad is adding Sylvester Stallone to the upcoming sequel scheduled for release in August 2021.

James Gunn, writer and director, took to Instagram to share the revelation. He seemed genuinely excited.

Always love working with my friend @officialslystallone & our work today on #TheSuicideSquad was no exception. Despite Sly being an iconic movie star, most people still don’t have any idea what an amazing actor this guy is. 🙌

While a few members of the original cast will not be returning. The Suicide Squad franchise is more than making up for that with some new additions. Not only is Sylvester Stallone attached to the project, but so is Nathan Fillion, Idris Elba, John Cena and an insane amount of others.

While Sly’s role in the film is yet to be confirmed, there’s some theories out there on the mean streets of the internet. Our favorite is the idea that he’d not be a live action hero or villain, but simply voice King Shark.

The first attempt at The Suicide Squad was, well… pretty bad. It a bit all over the place with its pacing and it failed to connect with people in the way DC-lovers were hoping. That said, James Gunn is about as good as it gets with these sort of projects, and if given enough creative freedom, there’s a chance this franchise rises from the ashes like a great phoenix.

Nonetheless, Sylvester Stallone could potentially be a sneaky great addition, as Sly has been known to give generational performances out of nearly nowhere. He’s a far better actor than given credit for.
