A brand-new gaming smartphone under the RedMagic brand has just been released.

TENCENT-BRANDED REDMAGIC 6 AND REDMAGIC 6 PRO: SPECS AND PERFORMANCE

The smartphone, dubbed the RedMagic 6, was made in collaboration with gaming giant Tencent. Hence, it's only apt that the RedMagic 6 may just be the strongest gaming smartphone in the market right now. Currently available only in China, the RedMagic 6 will be coming to the global market sometime this year.

The gaming smartphone comes in two forms: standard and pro. The standard edition has the following specs:

RedMagic 6 standard version

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor
  • Adreno 660 GPU
  • 8GB RAM
  • 128GB ROM
  • 1080×2400 6.8-inch OLED display
  • 5050mAh battery with 66W charging
  • 64-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel back camera + front camera

Meanwhile, the pro version has almost the same specs, with some minor upgrades:

RedMagic 6 pro version

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor
  • Adreno 660 GPU
  • Up to 18GB RAM
  • Up to 512GB ROM
  • 1080×2400 6.8-inch OLED display
  • 4500mAh battery with 120W charging
  • 64-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel back camera + front camera

While the pro version has a smaller battery to compensate for a better, more space-consuming cooling system, it supports 120W charging, so you get to charge it to full battery faster. The pro version's improved cooling system features a 7-layer multi-dimensional cooling system, with a fan that has an rpm of 20,000. The standard version's fan only spins at 18,000 rpm.

Furthermore, Tencent's collaboration in creating this phone has led to some improvements in terms of software. Specifically speaking, Tencent-made apps such as WeChat and QQ reportedly boot up faster on the RedMagic 6.

The RedMagic 6 retails at 3,799 yuan, or roughly $585. Meanwhile, the most powerful pro version with 18GB RAM and 512GB ROM costs 6,599 yuan, or about a thousand bucks. Not a bad deal for such a powerful phone, but it's almost the same price as a mid-ranged laptop. With mobile gaming becoming more and more popular, perhaps an investment in a powerful gaming smartphone might not be a bad idea.
