In the 2017 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears drafted University of North Carolina quarterback Mitch Trubisky with the second overall pick. Fast forward to the 2020 offseason, the Bears declined Trubisky's fifth-year option and the 25-year-old signal-caller could be playing his last year in Chicago. The two quarterbacks that were taken after Trubisky were Houston Texans star Deshaun Watson and Kansas City Chiefs MVP Patrick Mahomes.

Talk about a swing and a miss.

In response to a tweet by Fox Sports' Doug Gottlieb, Watson weighed in on whether the Bears would have been better if they took him at no. 2. As it turns out, however, Chicago didn't even have Watson on their radar.

Mitch Trubisky was selected by the Bears after moving up from no. 3 to the no.2 spot when they made a draft-day trade with the San Francisco 49ers. As if the price of moving up one spot is bad enough (the team traded the no. 67 and no.111 picks, as well as a 2018 third-round pick), taking Trubisky didn't sit well with the fans.

Deshaun Watson then fell on Houston's lap at no. 12. In his first three years in the league with the Texans, Watson has thrown for 9,716 yards and 71 touchdowns. Meanwhile, Trubisky has totaled 8,554 yards with 48 touchdowns and has shown some regression after leading the Bears to a 12-4 record in 2018.

Both players have led their teams to playoff appearances, but Watson has a win under his belt.

The Bears traded for 2017 Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles last March, putting Trubisky's starting position and his roster spot with the team under extreme uncertainty. One has to wonder if Chicago would have been better if they went the other way and selected Watson instead of Trubisky. Then again, Watson wasn't even considered an option for the Chicago franchise.

The Texans should be thankful to the Bears though.
