The New Orleans Saints this past season proved that they are still a force to be reckoned with. They went 13-3 during the regular season and had one of the deadliest offenses in the entire league. They averaged 31.5 points per game which ranked third overall in the entire league. The offense was headed by Drew Brees, who once again had an amazing year as he continues to avoid father time.

Brees was an MVP candidate all season long. It took Patrick Mahomes the last two weeks for him to finally surmount the veteran quarterback.

He threw for 3,992 yards with 32 touchdowns and only five interceptions. His completion percentage was a league-best 74.4 percent and his quarterback rating sat at 81.9, second to only Mahomes himself. In the playoffs, Brees threw for 550 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions over two games. The Saints ended up losing to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship game.

Their running back situation was better than fine all season long. Mark Ingram and rookie Alvin Kamara had wonderful voyages. Ingram ran for 645 yards with eight total touchdowns. Kamara, on the other hand, ran for 863 yards with 14 touchdowns. He also caught 81 passes for 709 yards with four total touchdowns. They had one of the best running back duos in the league.

Brees' best and only receiver was Michael Thomas. The 25-year-old caught 125 passes for 1,405 yards and nine touchdowns. Not one other wideout on the team eclipsed 500 yards or 40 receptions.

The Saints only have a few more years with Brees under center. They should utilize that time while they still have him and bring in the best pieces they can to put around him. Their lack of depth at tight end has really shown, and they desperately need to bring in a better pass catcher.

Jared Cook would be a perfect fit under Sean Payton's offense. Last season for the Oakland Raiders he led the team with 68 receptions. He also had 896 passing yards and six total reception touchdowns. Those were all career highs, and on a Raiders team that went 3-13 and had one of the worst offenses in the NFL.

For the past two seasons in Oakland, he caught 122 total catches for 1,584 yards and eight receiving touchdowns. He hasn't missed a game or a possession. The 31-year -old has had his two best seasons as a tight end as far as his production goes.

Like a fine wine, Cook seems to be getting better with age. Even though he's getting older, he still hasn't regressed. When he hits the open market, it will very likely be the best option for the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints need to acquire a pass-catching tight end. Whether by the draft or free agency, that is the one missing piece in their offense.
