Just a few weeks ago, the Chicago Cubs were in the driver's seat in the National League Central. Now, they have lost a ton of games and will be selling at the MLB trade deadline. One player of note is Kris Bryant, who has garnered interest from many teams, especially with his contract situation in flux. And, of course, the San Diego Padres are one team that makes a ton of sense.

Bryant not only played college ball at the University of San Diego, but he would also immediately put the Padres already-dangerous offense over the top and catapult them as the favorites in the National League if they aren't already.

Of course, AJ Preller has made ten million deals (ok, not exactly) and has experience dealing with the Cubs, so a trade makes a lot of sense in every way. The Padres acquired Yu Darvish and Victor Caratini from Chicago in the offseason. He then brought in Ha-Seong Kim and acquired Blake Snell, singling an effort to risk it all for a World Series title.

Last year at the deadline, Preller made a plethora of moves, including Mike Clevinger, Austin Nola, Trevor Rosenthal, and Mitch Moreland as the Padres made the playoffs and won the series against the St. Louis Cardinals before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers on their way to a World Series trophy.

So yes, Preller will once again be aggressive.

With that being said, let's examine the perfect trade offer the Padres should make to get Kris Bryant from the Cubs and put San Diego that much closer to a World Series.

Padres get: Kris Bryant

Cubs get: Luis Campusano, Osvaldo Hernandez, Eguy Rosario

Sorry, the Padres are not trading MacKenzie Gore, CJ Abrams, or Robert Hassell, at least not yet. The Padres MIGHT dangle Chris Paddack at the deadline. However, the only thing is if the Padres want to deal Paddack or not.

The Cubs would take this largely for the potential of Campusano, a stud catcher who had spent time in the major leagues before the Padres got Victor Caratini (from the Cubs) and Austin Nola at the deadline last season. Campusano can do it all, and he could be the catcher of the future in Chicago. Oh, and he's the #3 prospect in the Padres system, according to Fangraphs.

Hernandez is a raw project, but the lefty has talent and could make a difference at the big league level with another year or two. Mateo is a throw-in and could give the Cubs a starter in the outfield, but the Padres dealing Mateo is necessary to make the roster space for Bryant.

Rosario is perhaps the best piece of this deal in the long run. He is the Padres #20 prospect, and with San Diego's overload of infielders, they have no space for him in the foreseeable future.

Three high-level prospects for potentially a few months of Bryant is worth it. The Cubs will be selling, and with Bryant's situation in flux, it makes a ton of sense to shop him and take the best available deal.

The Padres would improve their stock as contenders, and the Cubs would get valuable prospects in return, and Campusano could very well take over for Wilson Contreras down the road.
