Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Billy Donovan has refuted a report which claimed that star point guard Russell Westbrook has been cleared for full contact.

Westbrook, who underwent surgery on his right knee on Sept. 12, has not been cleared by the Thunder medical staff for full contact, and is only taking controlled contact, via ClutchPoints' Tomer Azarly.

Russell Westbrook went through an intense workout Friday, which means he's getting closer and closer to taking full contact. Until he returns to the lineup, the Thunder will start Dennis Schroder at the point guard spot. OKC acquired Schroder this offseason from the Atlanta Hawks in the Carmelo Anthony trade. The 25-year-old speedster scored 21 points in the season opener versus the Golden State Warriors, but he struggled Friday night against the L.A. Clippers, scoring only eight points.

The Thunder's offense will run exclusively through star small forward Paul George for the time being. George notched 27 points against the Warriors and 20 versus the Clippers. The Thunder have lost both games.

Russell Westbrook, one of the best players in the NBA, has averaged a triple-double for two seasons in a row, and he won the 2017 MVP award as well. Last season, Westbrook posted averages of 25.4 points, 10.1 rebounds and 10.3 assists per game during the regular season. The 29-year-old explosive Thunder guard shot 44.9 percent from the field, 29.8 percent from beyond the arc and 73.7 percent from the free-throw line.
