During last night's Oklahoma City Thunder 121-108 win over the Detroit Pistons, Andre Roberson injured his left leg and had to be carried away from the court on a stretcher. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Roberson suffered a ruptured patellar tendon in his left leg and is expected to undergo season-ending surgery. The play occurred when teammate Russell Westbrook threw a wide-open alley-oop but Roberson's left knee popped awkwardly and he fell to the ground:

After the game, Westbrook commented on what losing Roberson means for the team. According to Erik Horne from The Oklahoman, the reigning MVP said:

“A lot changes. A lot of things that's not seen on the court. A lot of things that's not seen on the stat sheet, and that's a huge part. Like I always say, he's a huge part of our team's success, and obviously with him going down, we've gotta be able to forget it and make up for the things he brings to the game defensively and offensively.”

Roberson is rarely given as much credit as he deserves. He hardly ever appears on the highlight reels, but this is because his biggest contributions always come on the defensive end. That is what Westbrook means when he says that without Roberson a lot of ‘things that's not seen on the stat sheet' change.

Roberson was a huge part of OKC being a top team defensively all season long. The 26-year old averages five points, 1.2 assists, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.2 steals on 53.7 percent shooting from the field and 22.2 percent shooting from behind the three-point line. With Alex Abrines and Terrance Ferguson as the most likely replacements for Roberson in the starting lineup, do not be surprised if the Thunder make a move at the trade deadline to make up for his absence.
