This offseason, plenty of teams were successful in signing or trading for a new All-Star. The Los Angeles Lakers, LA Clippers, Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat, and Golden State Warriors all accomplished the feat. Unfortunately for Minnesota Timberwolves president Gersson Rosas, his team was not able to land a big fish. Rosas spoke on the team's pursuit of a star during the latest episode of The Full 48 with Bleacher Report's Howard Beck, saying he thought the team had a good chance of landing at least one.

While Rosas couldn't name the star he was speaking of, it was pretty obvious he is referring to D'Angelo Russell. Rosas suggested that the team was very close to signing him to a deal before the eventual sign and trade that landed Russell in the Bay Area.

“We felt very confident about our ability to execute that,” he said.

Signing Russell would've created yet another star duo, this time in Minnesota. Karl-Anthony Towns and Russell would've been quite the impressive pick-and-roll pairing.

However, now that Russell is a Warrior, the Timberwolves are forced to move on with just Towns as their star. Last year, the team disappointed and failed to make the playoffs. After making no major additions, it seems they are destined for the same type of season.

Barring an even more spectacular season out of Towns or a long-awaited breakthrough from Andrew Wiggins, it looks like Minnesota is at best an average team. They will have a tough time cracking the playoffs with this roster in a loaded Western Conference.
