While he has been known for his unique first name his entire life, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Shabazz Muhammad reportedly wants to legally change it to just “Bazz” instead.

Already being called as such by his teammates, coaches, friends and family, the 24-year-old UCLA admitted, via Jerry Zgoda of The Star Tribune, that he is unsure how the process works and how long it will take, but he indeed is intending to change it to his shorter nickname. When asked for the reason why he will undergo the process of legally changing his name, Muhammad said it's just a matter of preference for him, and that he likes it more than “Shabazz.”

“I just like it,” he said. “Everybody calls me that anyway.”

He may not have another reason for it, but one thing that's certain is he will still carry his last name, and will not be known by one name only. He jokingly said he understands it will be difficult to follow the footsteps of Elvis and Prince, just to name a few, thus only his first name will be changed.

“Those are some pretty big shoes to fill.”

Muhammad's locker room lighted plate already has “Bazz” in it, and he will be introduced wherever the Wolves play as such.
