Despite the Minnesota Timberwolves thriving into a playoff team, reports that Andrew Wiggins has “whispered to teammates” that he is unhappy being the third option behind newcomer Jimmy Butler and Karl-Anthony Towns, according to Darren Wolfson of ESPN 1500.

Wiggins has improved every season of his career since being drafted in the 2014 NBA Draft and traded to the Timberwolves for Kevin Love, but his progress has taken a step back this season, having to share duties with Butler as the veteran All-Star and Towns, a first-time All-Star and the team's most dynamic low-post option.

The Ontario native went from averaging a career-high 23.6 points per game to a mere 17.9, regressing in his 3-point shooting (32.5 percent) and even more so in his free-throw percentage (63.9 percent after a steady 76 percent career clip).

Wiggins was once the promised star of the Cleveland Cavaliers after being drafted with the top overall pick in 2014, and while the promise was fulfilled in Minnesota for the past three seasons, the added company has become a distraction to his plans of stardom.

No rumors were heard when the Timberwolves made their way to the top four in the West, but they have recently struggled, going 5-5 in their last 10 games and falling into the sixth spot with only 13 games left in the season.

Wiggins will head into the motherload next season, making nearly five times what his current annual contract pays after signing a four-year, $145.5 million deal to stay in the Twin Cities.
