The Tennessee Titans scored one of the biggest wins of the NFL offseason when they managed to acquire future Hall of Famer Julio Jones from the Atlanta Falcons via a trade back in June. That meant that the Titans have arguably the best wide receiver tandem in the league in Jones and AJ Brown. But for former Titans tight end Delanie Walker, that downfield duo could become a scary triple threat, as he believes this is the year that Anthony Firkser breaks out.

Walker said as much when he recently guested on the Talking w/TD podcast. Here’s Walker talking about Firsker as transcribed by Grant Gordon of NFL.com.

“He sat under me for years and I tried to teach him everything I know, but the dude got wiggles. He can get open, he can catch the ball. I think he going to be elite,” former Titans tight end Delanie Walker said recently on the Talking w/TD podcast with Turron Davenport. “Just adding Julio [Jones], it’s gonna open, have more opportunities for him. Over the middle. With matchups against linebackers. And that’s gonna be hard for them to cover him, cause he destroys linebackers within seconds. It’s gonna be good.”

If you’re looking to select a tight end late in your fantasy drafts before the 2021 NFL season, you probably should take note of Walker’s prediction for Firkser, who is currently deemed as the Titans’ TE1 on the depth chart. With Jonnu Smith gone, Firkser should get more starts this year after starting in just one game a season ago, when he also posted 387 receiving yards and a touchdown on 39 receptions.

AJ Brown and Julio Jones will definitely eat up the targets downfield, but Firkser could vulture some red-zone touchdowns. He had four catches and a touchdown on seven red-zone targets in 2020.

It’s also a perfect time for Firsker to explode, as he’s set to become a free agent at the end of the 2021 campaign.
