The Tennessee Titans are planning to start quarterback Blaine Gabbert against his former team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, over Marcus Mariota on Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Titans planning to start QB Blaine Gabbert against his former team, the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, per sources. Tennessee still hoping Marcus Mariota can regain feel in his hand for grip of the football as soon as possible, but plan going into Sunday is to start Gabbert.

Mariota is still recovering from the elbow injury which prevented him from playing last week against the Houston Texans. But since he's not yet sufficiently ready for Sunday, the Titans plan to start Gabbert for a second straight week.

The Jaguars selected Gabbert with the 10th overall pick in the 2011 draft. He spent three largely disappointing years in Jacksonville, going just 5-22 as a starter.

Gabbert went 13-of-20 for 117 yards and a touchdown in the Titans’ 20-17 win over the Texans last week. He also took over for Mariota when he went down in the season opener against the Dolphins. Gabbert went 11-of-22 for 117 yards and one interception in that game.

The Titans surprisingly swept the season series against the Jaguars last season. However, the absence of Mariota will make victory on Sunday much more difficult, especially with Gabbert set to go up against one of the best defenses in the league.

Jacksonville’s defense is coming off an impressive performance against the New England Patriots, as they held Tom Brady and the Pats offense to just 20 points in an 11-point victory.
