The Tennessee Titans had a COVID-19 outbreak forced a postponement of this past weekend's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It seemed things were trending up over the weekend, as Titans players registered negative tests and appeared ready for a week of practice. However, two new players tested positive on Wednesday, and now the team's Week 5 matchup with the Buffalo Bills is in question.

The situation might be even more dire than it appears. Paul Kuharsky reported Titans players broke COVID-19 protocols with a private workout last week:

A group of Titans worked out at Montgomery Bell Academy on Sept. 30 despite an NFL directive not to hold such get-togethers while team headquarters was closed because of a COVID-19 outbreak, according to sources who saw players there.

A league source said that once the Titans building was closed down on Sept. 29, the franchise was told there were to be “no in-person meetings, workout or activities at the facility or elsewhere.”

Students at the private school saw a large group of adult football players they identified as Titans working out on the school’s field during classes.

Mike Vrabel and Jon Robinson did not return requests for comment.

Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill was reportedly one of the players involved. Guard Rodger Saffold defended his teammates:

This report about the Titans breaking protocol would seem to prompt an investigation by the NFL.

The league previously fined Las Vegas Raiders players for failing to wear masks at a charity event hosted by tight end Darren Waller, and possible punishments might be forthcoming for the Titans players involved.

Regardless, things are getting sticky for Tennessee. The Titans have limited schedule flexibility, and Kuharsky's latest report is hardly the best reflection on how seriously the franchise is treating the pandemic.
