Atlanta Hawks rookie Trae Young has been an absolute stud so far this season. In the 2018 NBA draft, Trae Young and Dallas Mavericks young star Luka Doncic were essentially traded for one another. Both players had star potential written all over them prior to the draft.

Young has started all 14 games for the Atlanta Hawks this season and has averaged 30.4 minutes a  game. The Hawks rookie has also averaged 17. 5 points, 8.2 assists, and 3.4 rebounds.

In a Sports Illustrated interview with Andrew Sharp, Young reflected on draft night and the speculation surrounding the trade that sent him to Atlanta over Dallas.

“The thing with Luka,” Young says, “he's a great player. I don't understand why it can't work out for both situations. I hear [Atlanta made a mistake] all the time. Luka's a great dude, and I think he's going to be a really good player. But at the same time, I'm going to be a better player. Just because of my ability to stretch the floor, get others involved, I think I'll be better.”

This season Luka Doncic has been miraculous as well, but to say one is better than the other this early would be foolish. Both players are drastically different and play different positions as well. Doncic resembles Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons in the sense that he is a forward who is capable of facilitating the offense as a point guard. Trae Young has been compared the two-time MVP and three-time NBA champion Stephen Curry.

Young has the ability to shoot from anywhere on the court and has tremendous court vision and based on his statement in his interview he has all the confidence in the world. The verdict is still out on which rookie is “better” and Young is out to prove all of his doubters wrong..
