Something fishy is going on in New England, and it's not the smell of clam chowder. The Raiders have noticed.

On Wednesday, the Patriots placed wide receiver Josh Gordon on the injured reserve list due to a knee injury. But, there seems to be more to it than that, as New England is also set to waive Gordon.

Oakland Raiders right tackle (and former Patriot) Trent Brown already seems to be doing some recruiting, responding to a Gordon comment on Instagram:

Gordon has been disappointing this season, logging just 20 catches for 287 yards and a touchdown in six games while battling injury.

The 28-year-old was sidelined during the Patriots' 33-0 win over the New York Jets this past Monday, although Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reported earlier that Gordon's injury is only “minor.”

Breer added that Gordon is hoping to be released off of the injured reserve, which would free him to sign with another team.

The Patriots initially acquired Gordon last year in a mid-season trade with the Cleveland Browns. He played in 11 games with the Pats, catching 40 passes for 720 yards and three scores.

However, in December of 2018, Gordon announced he would be stepping away from the game of football to work on his mental health, and not long after, it was revealed that he had been hit with an indefinite suspension for violating the NFL's drug policy.

He was reinstated in August of 2019.

Gordon spent the first six-and-a-half seasons of his career with the Browns. After a couple of outstanding seasons to start his career, he played in just 10 games between 2014 and 2017 due to a litany of drug-related (marijuana) suspensions.
