The last day of the first set of group stage matches kicks off with a Group F fixture as Turkey faces Georgia. It is time to continue our 2024 Euros odds series with a Turkey-Georgia prediction and pick.

Turkey comes into this game as one of the two favorites to advance out of Group F. They lost just one game in qualification, falling to Croatia 2-0 in their second qualification game. They would win five more, and draw twice in the process. Turkey is favored just slightly over Georgia. Georgia won just three times in qualifiers, falling four times and having three draws, but managed to secure a spot after a 0-0 draw over Greece at the end of qualifiers. With the two teams expected to be fighting for the second spot in the group behind Portugal, three points would go a long way to making it to the knock-out round

Why Turkey Will Win

Turkey was a solid scoring team in the qualifiers. They scored in seven of their eight matches, with their only game missing a goal being against a solid Croatia team. Turkey scored 1.75 goals per game on average in qualifying. Still, they were a slow-starting team in qualifying marches. Their average time of the first goal was in the 53rd minute, waiting until halftime to often score their first. goal of the game. Still, Turkey knew how to finish games strong. Of their 14 goals in qualifying, six of them came in the 75th minute or later, with 14 of them coming after the 60th minute of play.

The Turkey squad is young, with one of their primary goal scorers being 25-year-old Kerem Akturkogolu. He played in eight matches in qualifying, starting seven and scoring twice. Akturgolu was one of the men who forced the most action, shooting a team-leading 17 times, while having seven hit the target. He was aided by the 23-year-old Orkun Kokcu. In five matches, he had the most points on the team, coming away with a goal and two assists. The experience on this team comes from Cenk Tosun, who scored twice in qualification, but he did so in just three appearances.

The key for Turkey will be its defense. This is led by goaltender Mert Gunok. He played five games, allowing just six goals and having a save percentage of 75 percent. If he is not in the net, Ugurcan Cakir is solid as well, winning two of his three matches, and having two clean sheets. He allowed just .42 goals per 90 minutes in qualification. Still, there is a concern about chemistry for the squad. Only one player played in all eight matches, and that was Akturkgolu

Why Georgia Will Win

Georgia scored in eight of their ten matches in qualifying, scoring 1.4 goals per game in the process. They did normally get on the scoresheet faster than Turkey, with an average first-goal time of the 43rd minute of the game. Still, some of that is skewed by very early goals. They average just .4 goals per game in the first half. In qualifying, it was 22-year-old Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who led the way. In nine matches, he scored four times, while also having an assist. He did a lot of misses and a penalty kick in his only chance from the spot. He was aided by George Mikautadze and Budu Zivivadze. Both of them scored three times in qualifiers. Mikautadze did so in ten match appearances, with eight starts, while Zivivadze played in eight, but started just three.

The biggest area of concern for Georgia is on the defensive end. They allowed an average of 1.8 goals per game in qualifiers while averaging one goal in each first half. They will look for Giorgi Mamardashvili to step up. The 23-year-old goaltender played in all ten matches in qualification. He allowed an average of 1.74 goals per 90 minutes and stopped 67.3 percent of the shots he faced. Further, the primary defenders on the squad did not have solid plus/minus ratings. Guaram Kashia and Solomon Kvirkveila have the most minutes and proved solid at times. Both of them were -.55 goal differential per 90 minutes when on the pitch or better. That number went up by nearly a goal when they were off the pitch.

Final Turkey-Georgia Prediction & Pick

While Turkey lacks experience, Georgia does not have much more. They are both young teams. Turkey was the better team in qualification and can score at a better rate. Further, the Georgia defense has not been great. This should be a slow-moving game overall, and the under should hit. Still, the best play in this game is on the side. Take Turkey to get the win.
