After an impressive start to the 2021 MLB season and yet another injury ruining perfect start, Byron Buxton has rejected a contract extension that was offered by the Minnesota Twins. News broke out of the Buxton's rejection by Ken Rosenthal and Dan Hayes.

Buxton had a great start to the 2021 season where he slashed .369/.409/.767 in just 110 AB's. However, injuries have sidelined him yet again, when he first suffered a hip injury and then a broken hand.

Getting him a contract was a priority for the Twins, as he is still viewed as a key franchise player. However, after the extension was denied, it is time for the Twins to decide on whether or not to keep him.

When healthy, Buxton has shown great promise. He is one of the best defensive players in the outfield, has great speed, and has the power to hit home runs at any plate appearance. Unfortunately, injuries throughout his long career have spoiled his chance of being a top player at his respective position.

Regardless of what happens, this could be the last season Buxton plays in a Twins uniform. The team may be heading to yet another rebuild and could be selling all of their big players for draft picks and prospects.

At only 27 years of age, Buxton still has a chance to resurrect his career with another team. If he gets traded, watch for the Philadelphia Phillies or the San Diego Padres to inquire about his services. Wherever he goes, he should bring some athletic and defensive potential.
