The Kentucky Wildcats were supposed to face the Ohio State Buckeyes in the CBS Sports Classic in Las Vegas on Saturday. Ohio State's COVID-19 outbreak resulted in the cancellation of that game, leaving Kentucky looking for another opponent. Once the North Carolina Tar Heels' CBS Sports Classic game against the UCLA Bruins was canceled because of UCLA's own outbreak, it only made sense for Kentucky to play North Carolina.

Sure enough, these two college hoops blue bloods will now face off in Vegas on Saturday night:

At least, the plan is for them to face off, barring another COVID outbreak. Positive tests have been shooting up all over thanks in large part to the holidays and the Omicron variant, affecting numerous sports in a major way. Several men's college basketball teams have had to shut things down because of positive tests.

Let's hope Kentucky and UNC will be able to get this game in. While the Tar Heels currently aren't ranked and the Wildcats are “only” ranked No. 21, this should be a fun matchup between two good teams. North Carolina is 8-2 on the season, while Kentucky is 7-2.

The Wildcats are led by big man Oscar Tshiebwe, who's averaging 16.3 points and 14.4 rebounds while shooting 67.8% from the field this season. Guard Caleb Love leads the Tar Heels with averages of 16.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists. Love is shooting 42.9% from 3-point range.

This showdown will take place at 5:30 p.m. ET in Vegas. It should be a great show, so let's just hope the show actually goes on.
