UEFA have hit England with four different charges after their fans at Wembley caused an absolutely raucous on Sunday at the Euro 2020 Final in London.

The Three Lions fell to Italy in penalties after Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Bukayo Saka all missed their final three spot-kicks. Before and after the clash, England supporters were misbehaving with brawls even breaking out. UEFA released this statement on Tuesday to address the charges, via The Athletic:

“Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA EURO 2020 final match between the national teams of Italy and England (1-1, Italy won 3-2 on penalties), played on 11 July at Wembley Stadium, London,” UEFA explained.

The charges are as follows:

• Invasion of the field of play by its supporters – Article 16(2)(a) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR)

• Throwing of objects by its supporters – Article 16(2)(b) DR

• Disturbance caused by its supporters during the national anthem – Article 16(2)(g) DR

• Lighting of a firework by its supporters – Article 16(2)(c) DR

UEFA added: “The case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) in due course.

“Separately, and in accordance with Article 31(4) DR, a UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed to conduct a disciplinary investigation into events involving England supporters which occurred inside and around the stadium.

As you can see, the England faithful were very out of line. Gareth Southgate urged them to not boo the national anthem of the Italians, but they opted to anyway. A fan even invaded the pitch at one point, but cameras quickly turned the other way during the match.

The three youngsters who took the final three penalty kicks have also been victims of online racial abuse since the defeat, with the likes of Harry Kane and other England players coming to their defense.

This is really not a good look for the Three Lions supporters after their team did so well in the tournament.
