The Netherlands will be playing hosts to Poland in a match between two sides that have qualified for the World Cup in Qatar and will look to use this game and other Nations League games as preparation for the tournament. With that said, it’s a good time to check out our Nations League odds series, which includes our Netherlands-Poland prediction and pick we have laid out below.

The Netherlands are having a true resurgence. After some disappointing results in the past few tournaments, including not qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, they have been playing some great football as of late. Against Poland, they will look to continue their amazing form and further solidify their first place in this group. Poland was somewhat stunned by the incredible 6-1 defeat to Belgium in the last Nations League matchday, but they are a much better team than that scoreline suggests. They have a win in this group over Wales and should be looking to secure a place in the Nations League A with a few positive results until the end of this campaign.

Why Netherlands Could Win This Game

As mentioned above, it is a true resurgence to the top of European football for the Dutch national team. The Netherlands last lost in the Round of 16 at the EURO 2020 tournament, falling to the Czech Republic 2-0. Since then, the Netherlands played eleven matches without defeat and only three were draws, two in official games and one in a friendly. Altogether, that loss to the Czech Republic is the only loss in the last one and a half years for a Dutch team primed to be one of the top contenders for the World Cup coming out of Europe.

Outside of form, talent is a major reason why the Netherlands could win this game. They have some amazing players and they have been performing at a very high level. Guys like Frenkie de Jong, Virgil van Dijk, Matthijs de Ligt, Memphis Depay, and Wout Weghorst, to name a few, have been absolutely critical for all the success of the Dutch team. If they play on a high level again, it should be a win for the Netherlands in this game.

Finally, a major reason why the Netherlands could win this game is that they would effectively secure first place with a win here. Mathematically, there would be opportunities for Belgium and possibly Poland to catch up, but nine out of possible nine points would be very hard to overcome for any team in the running in this group. With the first place, the Netherlands would have a chance to win the Nations League trophy when it is all said and done.

Why Poland Could Win This Game

The Polish team has not had the greatest of starts. The aforementioned 6-1 loss to Belgium must have hurt, and the fans will be demanding a good bounceback game. Poland will have a very tough opponent in the Netherlands, but as a team that reached the World Cup, Poland need to show why they will be relevant there. Beating the Netherlands would be a step in the right direction.

Outside of this motivation for retribution, a major reason why Poland could win this game is a chance to impact the results of the group. Should Poland win, they would be on six points, together with the Netherlands, and could make the group very interesting. Additionally, by winning this game, Poland would more or less guarantee their stay in Nations League A, which is important for the level of competition and seeding they would have in future draws for qualification groups.

Lastly, a huge reason for hope for Polish fans is Robert Lewandowski. While his club situation is a bit complicated, he has been great for Poland whenever his name was called upon. In the simplest of terms, Lewa can score any amount of goals against anyone, so if he is able to stamp his authority on the game, Poland have a chance. Lewandowski will be a huge factor in this game and his goals could determine the winner.

Final Netherlands-Poland Prediction & Pick

While Lewandowski is great and Poland also needs this win, the Netherlands is just too strong. Playing at home, the Netherlands will dominate this game and once again show themselves as one of the top European favorites for the World Cup. Our final Netherlands-Poland prediction is a Netherlands win at De Kuip Stadium in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Final Netherlands-Poland Pick: Netherlands (-310)
