UFC 293: Israel Adesanya vs. Sean Strickland continues on the prelims with a fight in the featherweight division between Shane Young and Gabriel Miranda. Young has lost each of his last three fights meanwhile, Miranda lost his UFC debut his last time out. With that said, check out our UFC odds series for our Young-Miranda prediction and pick.

Shane Young (13-7) is now just 2-4 in his UFC career and has dropped each of his last three fights. He is also winless over the last four years and is in desperate need of a win if he wants to keep his UFC hopes alive. Young gets to fight with his City Kickboxing teammates in front of his home crowd when he takes on Gabriel Miranda this weekend at UFC 293.

Gabriel Miranda (16-6) stepped up in weight to get a shot in the UFC but he was met with an absolute beast in Benoit Saint-Denis as his UFC debut. After a year off, Miranda has now dropped back down to his normal weight class of featherweight as he takes on Shane Young in hopes of finally getting his first UFC win this weekend in Australia at UFC 293.

Why Shane Young Will Win

Shane Young comes into this fight on the heels of three straight losses all while going winless over the course of the last four years. That puts his UFC record at a middling 2-4 and he is in dire need of a win if he wants to keep his UFC career alive. He has faced some tough competition in his time with the promotion, fighting the likes of Alexander Volkanovski in his UFC debut.

Young is a fighter that doesn't do anything great but he is good all around. He has finished 10 of his 13 wins which are split between six knockouts and four submissions and he has only been finished once in his seven losses. It's a good thing for him that his opponent Gabriel Miranda has the majority of his wins coming by submission as Young has never been submitted in his entire professional career. This is one of Young's easier fights to date, so as long as he doesn't shoot himself in the foot he should get back on track here.

Why Gabriel Miranda Will Win

Gabriel Miranda had the daunting task of stepping in on short notice and up a weight class to take on the beast that is Benoit Saint-Denis. Miranda was just completely outmatched against the much larger Saint-Denis and was eventually finished by knockout in the second round. That loss certainly aged well as Saint-Denis is looking like a legitimate contender in the lightweight division now.

This will be Miranda's first fight in a little over a year when he heads to Australia to take on Shane Young. Miranda is the definition of sub or bust when it comes to his game. Out of his 16 professional victories 15 of them have come by submission and the other coming by TKO. He is certainly the best submission specialist that Young has ever faced in his career and the way that Young has been taken down in numerous UFC fights the path to victory is there for Miranda to snatch a limb or his neck for yet another submission victory.

Final Shane Young-Gabriel Miranda Prediction & Pick

These two featherweights will be coming out guns blazing in hopes of righting the ship and getting back on track this Saturday night at UFC 293. Shane Young hasn't lived up to the expectations some had from him coming into his UFC career but this is his opportunity to get back on track. This is seemingly a fight that he ‘should' win but just like the Blake Bilder fight, Young has let us all down in the past. Miranda while is a very dangerous fighter on the mat, certainly lacks a sound striking game to complement his ground game.

Also, I don't believe Miranda is a strout wrestler to get this fight to the mat whenever he wants, and the way that Young's takedown defense held up against a good wrestler in Bilder he should be able to keep this fight on the feet. Ultimately, Young will come out putting the pace and pressure on Miranda which will eventually make him crumble as the fight goes on to where Young either gets the late finish or the unanimous decision victory.

Final Shane Young-Gabriel Miranda Prediction & Pick: Shane Young (-168)
