UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has been making it known that he wants to take on Canelo Alvarez in a boxing match. The Nigerian has been pushing hard for it since beating Colby Covington at UFC 268.

Kamaru Usman believes is the next person to challenge Canelo Alvarez and the fight ‘has to happen.' The UFC champion wants to make the fight happen for the fans.

“I think that’s a fight that the fans need to see,”Usman told The Schmo. “This is not a McGregor vs. Mayweather. However great that spectacle was, it was a spectacle. They want to see a fight, Canelo Alvarez vs. me. We both come forward. We’re both ready to bang. I’ve got the cojones to step into the boxing ring and challenge.”

Kamaru Usman currently has a fight against Leon Edwards in the works for his next UFC welterweight title defense. Colby Covington was hoping to be next but it seems like a boxing match against Canelo Alvarez is more likely according to the Nigerian.

“Yeah, it’s probably more likely,” UFC champion Usman revealed. “I’m willing to fight Canelo Alvarez anywhere. I’m willing to fight Canelo Alvarez in September. I’ve said it, I called the date. He wants to fight in September? I’m ready to fight in September. It’s going to be the biggest event ever and in combat sports history.

“Pound-for-pound vs. pound-for-pound. Everyone is saying it can’t be done. Well, guess what? It can’t be done until it’s done. So let’s make it happen.”
