Former UFC icon Anderson Silva's days in the Octagon might be over. But “The Spider” is going to try his hand at boxing.

Salvador Rodriguez of ESPN Deportes reported Silva will face former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a 10-round exhibition bout at Jalisco Stadium in Jalisco, Mexico on June 19. The fight will take place at 180 pounds, according to promoter Saul Rios.

This will be the third professional boxing match of Anderson Silva's career. He lost his first bout to Osmar Luiz Teixeira in 1998 and later won a second-round TKO over Julio Cesar De Jesus n 2005.

The longtime UFC middleweight champion told TMZ he is ecstatic to have the opportunity to face Chavez:

“When I look back at my journey, I see that nothing has been in vain,” Silva said, via Rodriguez. “I am extremely happy for the opportunity to test my boxing skills with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

“I train continuously, always striving for resilience and to overcome obstacles. Fighting is my everlasting breath.”

Silva was the premier star in the mixed martial arts world for close to a decade. He held the middleweight title from 2006 to 2013, ultimately losing in shocking fashion to contender Chris Weidman at UFC 162.

The Weidman loss was the beginning of the end for Anderson Silva in the UFC. He sustained a broken leg in a rematch with Weidman. Silva would get a win over Nick Diaz at UFC 183, but he tested positive for steroids.

The PED violations would become a hindrance, as Silva again tested positive in 2018 and is just 1-5 (with one no contest) since the second Weidman loss. Silva was released from the UFC in November.

“The Spider” will hope to inject new life into his fighting career in his upcoming bout with Chavez.
