UFC lightweight contender Dustin Poirier has implied that he's serious about facing Nate Diaz as soon as possible.

Ahead of Nate Diaz's looming UFC return, he has set his sights on fellow lightweight Dustin Poirier. The 36-year-old had previously took to Twitter his call for a potential bout against Poirier in “January.”

It didn't take long for “The Diamond” to agree and even said that it could happen as early as “this month.”

“I’ll fight Dp [Poirier] in January, don’t be a scared lil b***c this time, now or never,” Diaz wrote.

“I’ll fight you this month,” Poirier replied.

Now, it appears that while the said potential fight is still on verbal stage, Poirier had already communicated it to the promotion's higher-ups.

According to Poirier, the UFC “couldn't make it happen” at UFC 270, which is scheduled to happen on January 22. Therefore, they could hope that the promotion gives it a nod at UFC 271 on February 12th.

“Maybe UFC 271 they couldn’t make it happen on 270. I said yes,” Poirier tweeted.

As expected, Diaz hits back with another claim of his own, stating, “The ufc don’t wanna pay for u dp [Poirier] sorry u suck. Loser.”

Poirier is coming off a lightweight title loss to reigning champion Charles Oliveira. However, he has become one of the most in-demand fighters in the division, having beaten former two-division champion Conor McGregor twice.

Diaz, meanwhile, has not won a UFC fight since 2019 but has left quite an impression in his last fight against Leon Edwards in June.
