Belal Muhammad is coming off of a dominant performance against Stephen Thompson at UFC Vegas 45. The win has secured him a top-5 ranking and plenty of opportunities going forward.

Belal Muhammad recently spoke to MMAFighting and talked about the similarities he shares with the UFC legend. The wrestling is a big part of it.

“I have really good wrestling. I don’t have the accolades of being a Division-I wrestler, or going to this school or being born into a wrestling family, or anything like that. But I train with really good wrestlers … And I understand how to use things better than everybody else. I understand how to put everything together,” Muhammad said.

“I’m kind of like a GSP where you don’t need to have the most wrestling years in your life, but we both understood when to shoot on somebody when to cut an angle [and] when to take somebody down.”

The similarities come from the fact that he didn't go to school for wrestling. Georges St-Pierre didn't either and he is remembered for his excellent wrestling that dominated so many opponents.

The win over Stephen Thompson also showed just how smothering his wrestling can be. The UFC welterweight took ‘Wonderboy' down and dominated him for the whole three rounds. The judges even scored the fight 30-26 and 30-25 to prove how dominant he was.

Belal Muhammad would need to develop an excellent jab in order to truly become the next Georges St-Pierre. The Canadian's jab was truly a problem during his prime in the UFC.
