The Tennessee Titans found the end zone first in their Monday Night Football showdown with the Houston Texans, thanks to this spectacular touchdown by tight end Jonnu Smith, who turned a short pass from Marcus Mariota into a 61-yard score in the opening quarter to expand his team’s lead.

The second-year pro has become a touchdown threat for the Titans of late, but the one he scored against the Texans wasn’t typical of his previous scores nor of most other touchdowns by fellow tight ends. Not many hulking TEs could turn on the boosters for a 50-plus yard catch-and-run, though, Smith also got some help from the Texans’ miscommunication on defense that left him wide open for the reception.

Smith has capitalized on his uptick in playing time of late, made possible by the season-ending injury suffered by tight end Delanie Walker back in Week 1. Smith hasn’t scored a touchdown in the Titans’ first seven games, but now has three over the last four contests, none more impressive than the one he just had against the Texans.

Smith, who has played in at least 53 snaps in three of the Titans’ past four games entering Monday’s date with Houston, was selected by Tennessee in the third round of last year’s NFL Draft.
