Minnesota Vikings cornerback Mike Hughes was having an impressive rookie season before tearing his ACL during his sixth game in 2018. The expectation was that he would be ready for training camp and according to Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman, he is actually a little ahead of schedule.

“It’s a process,” Spielman said via Pro Football Talk. “In fact, he’s a little ahead of schedule, so we’ve got a long way to go. But I know he’s been here all offseason, working extremely hard at it. I know he’s anxious to get back on that field, and I know [Vikings athletic trainer] Eric Sugarman and our medical staff and the success they’ve had with ACLs and knee injuries and how quickly they get those guys back playing on the field and playing at the same level or higher. . . .We’re excited about where he’s at this point in his rehab right now.”

There have been some rumors swirling that the Vikings might trade away Trae Waynes and if Hughes is ahead of schedule maybe that will make the team a little more willing to trade him away. The Vikings have dealt with a lot of ACL injuries over the last few years but most players coming back from them have been successful.

Last year Dalvin Cook came back from an ACL injury and still had 920 total yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns.

The hope for the Vikings this year is that Hughes will be back at full strength, and they won't suffer any major injuries this year.
