Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson was killed in a car accident overnight in Alabama according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.

Jackson was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama and played his college football at Arkansas and Alabama State. He was selected in the second round of the 2006 draft by the Vikings with the hope that he would be the franchise quarterback for the team. Jackson became the Vikings starting quarterback in 2007 and continued through part of the 2008 season before going back to being a reserve.

After his time with the Vikings, Jackson signed with the Seattle Seahawks and was their starting quarterback for the 2011 season. The Seahawks traded him to the Buffalo Bills after the season, but he never played a game. Jackson went back to the Seahawks for the 2013 season where he was a backup quarterback for the 2013 season.

After retiring from the NFL, Jackson went into coaching. Jackson went back to his alma mater to be the quality control and quarterbacks coach. He joined the Tennessee State coaching staff for the 2019 season to be their quarterbacks coach. And it appeared he had a bright career ahead of him in the coaching game. Jackson was also someone who was very involved in the community while in the NFL and also in his hometown.

Jackson was married to Lakitta Jackson and they had three children together: Tarvaris, Takayla, and Tyson. This is another tragic loss for the NFL family, and now three kids are without a dad.

Thoughts and prayers out to Jackson's friends and family.
