The Minnesota Vikings were able to add another piece to their receiving corps with Josh Doctson. His arrival has allowed him an opportunity to get reacquainted with quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Although Doctson does not have much time to get familiar with the playbook before the start of the 2019 NFL season, he has already gotten a feel for their new scheme. According to Mark Craig of the Star Tribune, he feels it has been a smooth transition thus far.

“That’s probably the most pleasant thing,” he said. “It’s been easy for me so far. A lot of the same concepts. Familiar routes. Just kind of different verbiage. So, it’s been kind of easy.”

Cousins added that Doctson is much more than just a vertical threat in the passing game.

“One of his lead traits was his vertical jump, his ability to catch the ball at a high point in the air,” Cousins said. “But he was a fully developed receiver, too. I don’t feel like he was a one-trick pony.”

Cousins is rather familiar with Doctson's skill set after they spent two seasons together with the Washington Redskins. This should provide an extra advantage when it comes to getting the latter up to speed with the offense.

The Vikings already boast one of the most talented receiver duos in the league with Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. They are hoping Doctson can provide some much-needed depth for Cousins in the passing game. The two connected on 35 passes for 502 yards and six touchdowns during the 2017 campaign.

Although Doctson has struggled to live up to the billing as a former first-rounder, he will have a solid opportunity at a potential resurgence in Minnesota.
