Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings reached an agreement on Sunday that will keep the veteran QB in Minnesota for another year for $35 million.

Cousins' name has been thrown in trade rumors as of late, so the extension came as a shock to a lot of people. For the 33-year-old, however, he now wants to move on from all the speculations and focus on the immediate task at hand with Minnesota: the Super Bowl.

“Now that that's out of the way…let's get to work on a Lombardi,” Cousins wrote on Twitter after details of his deal with the Vikings emerged.

Kirk Cousins has been with the Vikings since 2018, but the team has only reached the playoffs once during that stretch–making it to the divisional round in the 2019 season. The lack of success with him under center led many fans to believe that the two were heading to a breakup.

Interestingly, the Vikings opted to give their Cousins partnership one more shot, hence the one-year extension. Chad Graff of The Athletic also cited some reasons why Minnesota chose to retain Cousins, including the fact that it provides them some much-needed cap space.

The Vikings are also said to confident they can make the playoffs next season with the way their roster is constructed, especially with Cousins set to play under new coach Kevin O'Connell.

It remains to be seen if Minnesota's bet on Cousins will pay off, but the team and its fans sure hope it will.
