Minnesota Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph's name has been thrown around in trade rumors all offseason and he is hoping soon he can have clarity on his position with the team.

Late last week a report was filed that said contract extension talks between Rudolph and the Vikings had broken down. The report led many to believe the next step was for the Vikings to trade away Rudolph.

The Vikings drafted Alabama tight end Irv Smith with their second-round pick, Rudolph is entering the final year of his contract and the Vikings need to open up cap space to sign their first-round draft pick so on paper it makes sense for the team to trade him away.

On Monday Rudolph made it clear that he wants to stay in Minnesota but also knows the Vikings have some tough decisions to make.

“We’re in a tough situation as a team,” Rudolph said, via Andrew Krammer of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. “Can’t keep everybody, can’t pay everybody. Those guys, I know, are working really hard to figure out something.”

The Vikings kick off OTA's next week and Rudolph would like this situation to be figured out sooner rather than later. Last year Rudolph hauled in 64 receptions for 634 yards and four touchdowns.

Off the field, Rudolph has really integrated himself into the community and he and his wife Jordan are very active in supporting the Childen's Hospital in the Twin Cities.

This story could drag all the way to training camp but it seems like this is something the Vikings and Rudolph would like to figure out soon.
