In spite of speculation that Hue Jackson could become the Minnesota Vikings next offensive coordinator, it won't be happening, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.

The contract of interim Vikings offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski expires on Tuesday, and reports say that he will not be returning to Minnesota in 2019, meaning the Vikings will have to search for a new offensive play-caller this offseason.

Given Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer's familiarity with Jackson from their days with the Cincinnati Bengals, many felt that Jackson could end up reunited with Zimmer in Minnesota.

Jackson split the 2018 campaign between the Cleveland Browns and the Bengals, first serving as head coach of the Browns before being fired midway through the season. He then joined Cincinnati as a special assistant to the head coach.

This marked Jackson's third stint with the Bengals, as he first joined the coaching staff in 2004 to serve as wide receivers coach for three seasons and then returned in 2012, filling various roles through 2015 before being hired as Cleveland's head coach.

Needless to say, Jackson's tenure with the Browns did not go well, as he went a putrid 3-36-1 in three-and-a-half years with the club. Jackson also served as head coach of the Oakland Raiders for one year in 2011, going 8-8, bringing Jackson's overall coaching record to 11-44-1.

The Vikings went 8-7-1 this season, losing three of their last five games to fall out of the playoff picture a year after making it all the way to the NFC Championship Game.

Minnesota has not made the playoffs in back-to-back years since 2009.
