The Minnesota Vikings will not exercise their option on safety Andrew Sendejo, making him a free agent, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Sendejo is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played just five games due to a groin injury that ultimately landed him on the injured reserve list in late November. When he was on the field, he registered 27 tackles.

The 31-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Rice University, went undrafted but eventually landed with the Dallas Cowboys in 2010. He played in just two games that season, and the following year, Sendejo moved to the Vikings.

He appeared in only three contests in 2011 and did not become a central figure on Minnesota's defense until 2013, when he participated in all 16 games and made 10 starts, posting 84 tackles and an interception.

Then, in 2014, Sendejo went back to the bench, where he totaled 27 tackles and a forced fumble, but the following year, he assumed a starting role for good, recording 73 tackles, a half of a sack, an interception and a fumble recovery.

He continued to improve in 2016, finishing with 66 stops, a half of a sack, two picks, a couple of fumble recoveries and four passes defended, and in 2017, he tallied 77 tackles, a pair of interceptions and seven passes defended.

Minnesota went 8-7-1 in 2018 and missed the playoffs in what was a very disappointing season following a year in which it won 13 games and made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game.

The Vikings have not made back-to-back playoff appearances since 2009.
