The Minnesota Vikings lost in shocking fashion to the then-winless Detroit Lions, largely due to a collapse by their defense. Fortunately, the defense will be getting some reinforcements in the form of Patrick Peterson, who just took a crucial step in his quest to return to the field.

That's great news for both the Vikings and Patrick Peterson. Minnesota's pass defense surrendered 272 yards and three touchdowns, including a last-second score, to Jared Goff and the Lions, who had fielded one of the league's worst passing attacks coming into the game.

The Vikings, who rank 22nd in the NFL in passing yards allowed per game, could use the services of Peterson for their upcoming Thursday Night Football matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. An eight-time Pro Bowler, Peterson built a reputation as one of the league's best corners as a member of the Arizona Cardinals, though he's taken a step back in Minnesota.

Still, the Vikings likely could have used his veteran presence out there last Sunday, especially on that last drive by the Lions. Now active, Peterson will make his return to the field for the Vikings against Pittsburgh, a potential bounce-back spot for the entire defense against a Steelers' offense scoring just over 20 points per contest.

Vikings fans will likely feel a little better now that Peterson will be out there on Thursday night.
