The Minnesota Vikings have expressed interest in having Kirk Cousins return as their starting quarterback in 2022. The new regime, led by head coach Kevin O'Connell and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, have gushed over Cousins' abilities while making it clear that they want him to return. Well, the latest rumors show that a return to Minnesota might not be so easy to accomplish, via Vikings Wire of USA Today.

The Athletic’s Chad Graff is reporting the early indications are that the Minnesota Vikings quarterback “isn’t going to offer any sort of hometown discount to stay with the Vikings.”

The Vikings want Kirk Cousins. All indications are that Cousins wants to be in Minnesota. However, the franchise is in a tight salary cap spot and a restructure of the veteran QB's contract would make things a lot easier for roster-building.

However, that's exactly the problem, per these rumors. Cousins doesn't want to give the Vikings the so-called hometown discount on an extension. Why should he?

After all, the 33-year-old is coming off of a Pro Bowl season that saw him throw for over 4000 yards with 33 touchdowns against just seven interceptions.

If Cousins is looking for a raise, now is the time to ask for one. That puts the Vikings in a precarious position. They can either appease the veteran signal-caller and pay up for his continued services, or they can look to trade him to one of the various QB-needy teams in the league.

The new regime will have some very important decisions to make over the next several weeks.
