Following a standout campaign over the 2021 regular season, Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has an eye on helping his team make a grand return to the postseason next year.

Guerrero worked on his conditioning over the last offseason, which came after he noted that for years in spring training, he was “coming here out of shape.” The Blue Jays slugger sure made tremendous progress in this, as he lost 40-plus pounds ahead of the start of the 2021 season.

The offseason work paid off in the end for Guerrero; he posted career highs in nearly every notable offensive category over the regular season, from home runs (48) to OPS+ (169).

After seeing Toronto just miss out on playing playoff baseball, Guerrero once again has an eye on improving his conditioning in order to help his team make a return to postseason play, which he opened up about to Z101 Digital’s Hector Gomez.

“I'm working harder than I did last year in the offseason,” Guerrero said. “My goal is to arrive in my best physical condition at spring training and have a better season than the one I had this year so I can help the Blue Jays win the World Series.”

Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins sure will have a hefty task to build a playoff-contending team for the 2022 season, especially as reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Robbie Ray and infielder Marcus Semien are currently free agents. It will be noteworthy to see on just what Atkins has in mind to retool Toronto’s roster following a 91-win campaign.
