Charles Barkley is not one to bite his tongue and he has no problem dishing criticism straight to someone’s face. The opinionated Inside The NBA host one again dished out his unfiltered brand of commentary by telling Golden State Warriors’ injured star Klay Thompson that his team won’t even make it to the top eight of the stacked Western Conference this season.

Thompson, who is expected to be out for the entirety of the 2019-20 NBA campaign after tearing his ACL in last year’s Finals, joined the panel of TNT hosts Barkley, Candace Parker, Kenny Smith, and Ernie Johnson during the Warriors’ season opener against the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday.

The Warriors were down at the half, 65-54, prompting Barkley to make the brash assessment that the reigning WCF champs are no longer contenders this year.

“I was wrong before the game. I said they’re gonna be the 7th-8th seed. They’re not gonna make the playoffs. They just can’t score enough.”

The Warriors are sporting a much different line-up this year after losing a plethora of players from last year’s core. The team did catch a break by acquiring the services of last year’s Most Improved Player of the Year runner-up D’Angelo Russell, but Barkley still believes it won’t be enough to catch up with the rest of teams that made significant upgrades in the offseason.

Thompson, meanwhile, took Barkley’s comments in stride and defended his team’s chances.

“Chuck has the right to be pessimistic but these young guys are gonna step up,” he said during the live broadcast.
