Golden State Warriors star forward Draymond Green was named as one of seven Western Conference All-Star reserves on Thursday. Green's selection for the All-Star Game was his first nomination since the 2017-18 season, having missed out on the honors in each of the previous three seasons. Unfortunately, the Warriors star has been dealing with a lingering back injury, which has held him out for all but seven seconds of game action since Jan. 6. Due to his injury, Green has decided that he will not be taking part in the 2022 NBA All-Star Game, per Shams Charania.

As a result of Green's impending absence, NBA commissioner Adam Silver will elect a Western Conference player to replace him on the roster.

The Western Conference All-Star roster consists of its five starters; Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant, Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins, Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, and Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic. The reserves include Phoenix Suns guards Chris Paul and Devin Booker, Utah Jazz stars Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, Mavericks guard Luka Doncic, and Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns.

Green has had a tremendous season for the Warriors, helping them reclaim their title as one of the best teams in the West following a couple of down years. On the season, Green has posted averages of 7.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 7.4 assists, while shooting at a 53.7% clip from the field. He's been the defensive leader for the Warriors when healthy and remains a vocal leader from the sideline while out with injury.

While he's sure to be disappointed about missing out on the game, his absence could open the door for another budding star to get their opportunity on one of the NBA's biggest stages.
