Last month, it came to fruition that Jeremy Lin experienced racism in the NBA G League after someone had called him “coronavirus” as a slight. Since then, Lin has appeared on CNN and has been heavily involved with raising awareness around Asian-American racism.

The NBA has been investigating the incident with the help of Jeremy Lin, and it appears as though they have found the culprit, per Shams Charania. Due to Lin's request, the player under scrutiny is being kept secret and the league is handling the situation internally.

Sports are filled with trash-talking. Anyone who has ever played sports is familiar with hearing words exchanged between two opposing teams. Some players rely on their trash talk and view it as apart of their game. Kevin Garnett is one of those superstar athletes that consistently talked trash to his opponents throughout his career.

However, there's a huge difference between talking trash to get into your opponent's head, and making a derogatory term towards someone. Trash talking is fine, but some lines shouldn't be crossed. Calling someone a racist term isn't trash-talking, it's ignorant behavior that needs to be corrected and Lin might not be the only one.

The NBA has done a rather good job in handling these types of situations. Especially after Meyers Leonard slipped in a derogatory term while live-streaming a video game, the league jumped in and fined him $50,000 while also suspending him.

It's unknown as to what the punishment will be for the NBA G Leaguer, but Adam Silver will likely fine the player, suspend him, or both. We may never know who called Lin “coronavirus,” but rest assured, the league is dealing with the incident swiftly.
