Kelly Oubre Jr. knows he is a starting-caliber guard, and he's ready to prove that to other teams if Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors will not give him a chance.

After the Warriors' season ended with a failed bid in the play-in tournament, Kerr highlighted that Klay Thompson will start for the team in 2021-22 when he returns. While the Dubs head coach  said he wants Oubre to be back, he expressed his understanding that the young swingman will weigh his options.

“Klay's going to start when he gets back. So would Kelly be interested in coming off the bench? That's a question only he can answer. So he'll weigh his options, we'll weigh ours and we'll see where it all goes,” Kerr shared.

Of course, Kelly Oubre Jr. is not happy to hear those remarks. However, he is not taking it personally and is instead using it as a motivation to prove what he can do.

“I don't even want to speak and elaborate on much on that situation,” Oubre told Chris Haynes on his latest Posted Up podcast episode, per SB Nation. “But all I’ll tell you is that it put fire in my heart. It added more fuel to the fire.”

Oubre Jr. also highlighted his belief that he hasn't been given a “fair opportunity” to show what he can do. Nonetheless, with his  free agency coming, he is only thankful that he'll be able to assess his options and get the best available opportunity for him.

“But all I could do was go do my job and play. Keep focused and be professional. I was just worried about playing basketball for the team, and now I'm blessed to be an unrestricted free agent,” the 25-year-old added.

It remains to be seen what Oubre will do as he becomes an unrestricted free agent, but it sure looks like the Warriors are already at a disadvantage if they are looking to resign him. A lot of teams are still high on Oubre, and it won't be surprising to see him get significant offers that promises a starting job–something the Dubs can't provide when Klay returns to action.
